although she has virtually no formal musical training, gina s immediate family includes an opera singer, a composer, a philharmonic percussionist, two church choir directors and three rock bands. You would never guess she was bred on a diet of church hymns and motown soul, because gina s songs mostly reflect the radical influence of the riot grrrl music and queer politics that inspired her to pick up a guitar back in the mid-90s and teach herself to play. Since moving to nyc from her hometown of washington dc, gina has earned comparisons to Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Ani DiFranco and Le Tigre. Her songs have aired nationally on PBS In the Life (a segment about DIY women in music featuring Donna Dresch, the Butchies, Carrie Brownstein and JD Samson) and also on Dawson s Creek. Her debut album Intractable was released in 2003 to critical acclaim and was nominated for Outmusic s Outstanding Debut Album Award. Her new record she s so androgynous definitely impresses with thirteen tracks of well played rock/pop with gina s awesome vocal ability soaring over the music. Good.
