Tim Byrnes moved to New York City in the fall of 1998 to study music at New York University. Since then, he has co-led the bands Budd Dwyer and Friendly Bears, and currently performs as Hazel-Rah with a multitude of excellent musicians. He has also recorded and otherwise performed with Candiria, Kayo Dot, Tartar Lamb, Ron Anderson's PAK, Secret Chiefs 3, and Anthony Braxton, amongst many others. He is also a founding member of Times of Refreshing Christian Center in the city. Behold, A Firewall and Stars are the preeminent full-ensemble compositions from Hazel-Rah (NYC), captured skillfully onto tape by Colin Marston (Dysrhythmia, Krallice) and masterfully executed in performance by Tim Byrnes, Adam Minkoff, David Andrew Moore, and Charlie Looker (Extra Life). These songs epitomize Hazel-Rah's sound, juxtaposing crushing dissonance with epic cadences, and advanced rhythmic structures with trance-like passages.
