Anímic – Hannibal CD

"In the original tale, Cinderella ends up murdering her stepmother so that her father will marry another woman. The Grimm brothers reserved a sadistic ending for the Snow White story, which closes with the wicked queen dying after being forced to dance in a pair of red-hot iron-forged shoes. And, for her part, Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid drinks a potion to be able to live on dry land, knowing that the side effects will make her feel a stinging pain at every step, as if she were stepping on a thousand knives. As if that were not enough, the Prince ends up marrying another woman and the Little Mermaid throws herself into the sea, where she turns into foam and disappears forever. We have become so naïvely accustomed to happy endings that anyone would say that the collective unconscious leads years trying to bury the fact that, in its origins, children's stories embraced the dark side of the human being in a healthy way.

At the beginning of Animic, many insisted on comparing their music with a story with a happy ending where bright colors converged in eternal rainbows and where Nature was celebrated as the long-awaited Paradise Lost. There was part of the truth in this type of appreciation, but it must also be recognized that a shadow always beat under Animic's songs, like a second skin that, from the depths, demanded attention that not everyone seemed willing to provide. Everything changed with Hannah, a record in which the shadow extended to the first skin like a pandemic observed in slow motion that revealed unprecedented patterns of unusual beauty. Already then, Animic seemed to whisper in our self-induced sleep to warn us that this story did not want to have a happy ending."
