Five Eight / Clemente ‎– The Kids Wanna Rock Revival split 7"

"Five Eight's contribution, the brilliantly titled "The Road Beat The Shit Out Of My Favorite Band" is typically smoking. The Bleach-era Nirvana rock/punk hybrid almost melts the vinyl. Between the screaming, tear the throat out vocals, and the powerhouse drumming, the band completely captures the raw reckless energy of rock and roll. The rest of the instrumentation takes a backseat to those bravura performances, but it is also perfect for the track...especially the nasty low end "solo". This is another great side from a band whose long history is full of underappreciated, could've-been classics.

The b-side "Farewell To An Audience" by Clemente, starts out laid-back and lamenting the expectations that audiences place on performers and how the music often suffers because of it. Lyrically, the band retains a young performer's idealism and love for music while balancing this love with a suspicion for the people that will consume it.

If this single is actually a "Five Eight vs. Clemente" concept as insinuated in an ad for the record, the battle is a draw. Five Eight wins for out and out rocking and Clemente are the victors for song sentiment and its message." (Flagpole April 5, 2000)
