Alberto Montero – La Catedral Sumergida lp

Echoes, mist, a continuous mist extends throughout the entire minute of Alberto Montero's new album: La Catedral Sumergida. From the title to the cover or the titles of the songs, the entire album has an almost invisible, practically imperceptible thread that takes you by the hand without realizing it.

Alberto's new work is, without a doubt, the most complex, experimental and mature that the composer from Puerto de Sagunto has delivered to date. A work closed in on itself, which does not look beyond being perfectly and totally coherent. An exercise in honesty that very few people within the peninsular pop scene are willing to do.
It gives the sensation of immersing yourself in a calm sea in which Debussy, Vainica Doble, Tomita, the Psychedelic Pop of the 60s or the music of Legend of Zelda mix shamelessly. A vast and forgotten world, remains of a shipwreck, images of Atlantis...

Alberto has already given us several albums that were close to perfection. Yet he had never presented a work that had such absolutely overwhelming internal coherence. An album that is structured from start to finish in such a clear way that everything, from the titles to the sound in general, makes sense almost magically.

The Submerged Cathedral is an album that escapes labels. Camera pop? Psychedelic Pop? Cinematic pop? Pop, pop, pop, and yet (what a surprise!) it's their least pop album. Music that opens up a whole new world for this composer who could, of course, make a soundtrack. Or pop of pluperfect songs. Or even music for video games. There are no limits.
