Les Philippes – Odisea Ultramarina LP

Delicious is the word that defines the flavor that Les Philippes gives to all the music they create. His delicacy, his transparency, his class, virtues that have been tanning since his distant debut, three albums ago. Les Philippes have always been, and will always be, an exquisite pop group, simply elevated, gently wrought. They began singing in English in Philarmonic Philanthropy (BCore, 03), produced by Mark Wirtz and praised by the press and the public, with songs with an old flavor and beautiful melodies for four voices. In the following Les Philippes & The Empty Characters (BCore, 05), they found an identity in the lyrics in Spanish that they decided not to abandon, and present us in its entirety with this brand new and brilliant Odisea Ultramarina. Odyssey because the process of making and recording this album has been slow, as great works need; and Ultramarina because it is at Ultramarinos Costa Brava, Santi García's already legendary studio, where the architect of the state-owned modern post-hardcore sound has immersed himself in the songs in search of a treasure that he has managed to find. The story of some sailors who explain their visions of the world that surrounds them and perhaps scares them (the terrestrial one) in En los estancos no se puedeSmoking and the one that amazes them (the oceanic one) in Philippe Aronnax; love and travel stories in 1, 2, 3, fiction! o I always wanted to wear a hat, or the sailor tribute from The Adventures of Grandpa Rogelio, with the collaboration of the Llops De Mar group of Havanans, from Sant Feliu de Guíxols. It is the very story of these four boys with exceptional sensitivity, with an unwavering character who looks on the bright side of things even though around them it rains guitars and drums from the dance floor, immoral real estate, neighborhood sausages and surreal vegetables. His genius is worked, and his songs pearls found in the confines of the ocean.
