The Lovers Of Nothing – Party Animal Control CDr

Philadelphia’s The Lovers of Nothing deliver a lean, eclectic-yet-unified sound that takes on heavy ideas but is also a good hang.

Sinewy guitars, nimble bass lines, and melodic vocals that animate poignant, clever, and/or sardonic lyrics shape a unique tone and voice.  With grit and sincerity, they forge a singular sound, at once familiar and fresh to devotees
of early post-hardcore (Fugazi, Jawbox, Quicksand, Shudder to Think) in search of new angles.

The words hold up a mirror and make you feel flawed but in good company. There’s a true tale of the power of science to save or slay us in album-opener Ex-Cyborg. Different Dragons calls out the pious hypocrisy of blind belief while turning a blind eye to abominations.

But the material is self-aware and never takes itself too seriously. Total Party House lives up to its name, grabbing for faded glory while protecting the new carpets. The Rise and Fall of Rusty Razorblades and the Punchable Faces
careens through the bottlerocket career of a hardcore band too hardcore to hold it together.

A veteran of the mid-90s Philadelphia area underground scene, songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Joel Moffatt makes music that has a viewpoint, a conscience, a sense of humor, and that stays with you.
