"Time it surprises time and time again. Has it really been almost two years since Sur-rur, who left Lapua in 1996 to conquer the world, released their latest full-length album so far? I wonder if our past still feels like a fresh album, and there is still something to chew on in its crisply catchy and underlining snappy slices. The band hasn't made a weak disc, but something about their latest studio output seemed to hit the plot even better than usual.

Collections that bundle archive treasures are tricky cases, because shadows of doubt always creep into the mind. Why were these songs left out of their original places? Is the band scraping the bottoms, won't there be any new material? Were these songs just weaker pieces or the wrong pieces when the records were being put together? Only the creators know why choices have been made and slices have been thrown overboard. I'm not even going to guess them, even though I was surprised many times and in several different ways when I was rummaging through the collection.

When dismantling the carpet weaves more closely, the short instrumental slice Swede Butterfly would have been perfectly suitable as an intro or outro for the album Our Past, but that just didn't happen. The cute and sweet number is still nice to hear and now I can try it on another portrait in my mind. At the same time, it is also good to note that the spawns have been compiled into a functional new album that would not have needed a lengthy subtitle to support it.

2019's Cotton Candy Hair is already a 13-stripe package, but I would argue that Cowbellwas still the victim of a half-court murder. You see, swinging and going guitar rock plays in a big arc, and not many bands can ever make bets of this caliber. Sur-rur's characteristic half-longing is combined with bouncing in a way that creates quick slovers and ragged backlashes.

However, the most surprising choices have been for the 2016 People on the Lawn longplay. There are only six tracks on this album and no less than four other songs have been released from the sessions that don't run out of potential. I believe in tomorrow and sleet on this board, and the melody and the group's throwing themselves cannot be praised enough. What about Big Picture, which opens a new album? The big picture must have been very important that such a gem was once hidden in the archives.

A more atmospheric and peaceful side of the band is presented by Football Coach, who could not yet find space for himself on the 2007 album Return of the Urn Dusts. There was also no room for a brawl rally on the same reel The band broke up, which Pixies undeniably shines through loud and clear. But now it's time to thank the music gods (or archival elves) for finally officially releasing these great songs.

Not every bet is necessarily the purest gold and, for example, the surplus of the Thick Sheet of Time sessions Evening Walker remains unopened to the undersigned. But the listener only knows one side of each track, and perhaps the rest of the pieces will fall into place in due course.

There are also four bonus tracks on the CD edition, previously released only on the Merries split and on the b-side of the single "The Sun Doesn't Fit". More punchy than its name, Salamarunkkari electrifies the air with crispy guitar rock and a ridiculously strong melody. The nightmare hits the lair of more experimental art rock before Pink Floydcan be said and the black-lipped post-punk hums happily in the corner.

Behind the first shots, of course, the world goes on and Insectis buzzing nicely, successfully filling the puck's heavier grunts. The melancholic chair is again a great anchor for the album, as the runta and scab settle down quietly. These, too, are slightly ambiguous parts, the full value of which will only become clear in the future as the number of listens increases.

So what kind of weave are you like, what kind of rug can you put together? Sur-rur is Sur-rur, and the album does not disappoint the band's fans. It doesn't offer headlines or incomprehensible studio clowning, but it has a real and downright balanced long play. I couldn't say that the disc was created from 'leftovers', which says a lot about the high quality of the end result, especially for a band of Sur-rur's calibre." - Mika Roth / Desibeli.net
