Aldrin Y Collins – Escuchas lp

Who knows if the result of random group conditioning, Aldrin and Collins have seen fit to name their third album 'Listen', a concept that is undoubtedly closely related to the band, well, if the followers of the —now— Catalan quartet know anything , is that in order to fully enjoy his universe one needs that: patience, attention... you listen. Of course, curiously this EP has been the one chosen by Gerard, Pau, David and Xavi to definitively flee from decorations and flourishes. In return, that latent rage that was intuited at times in his first two albums is much more felt, leaving behind the preciosity and even the candor that his debut album conveyed, above all.

Although in no way do they renounce their roots, their essence. That is evident from the first tac-tac-tac-tac of 'Aerostático', a song that reminds us of its non-negotiable influences. Emo guitars and alternative rage go hand in hand throughout this invincible beginning which is followed almost without letting us breathe by the surprising 'Escuchas', a fast punk rock piece of love, espionage and social networks that will delight conspiracy theorists of the S .XXI. In 'Ailurofobia', Jeremy Enigk and pre-Garfunkel Ramon join hands to, through an elegant melody and a rhythmic base that is pure class, reach a climax of those that will never go out of style.

There are also moments for ease and costumbrismo (so common on his previous albums) like those of 'Monumentos de Parvulario', and for a song like 'Contexto Histérico', which simmers and ends up exploding in a way that Dave Grohl would already like for himself in his latest works. The sextet 'Carbono 14' closes, a “very Aldrin” piece, with cryptic lyrics and a complex melody, to be enjoyed calmly, whose purpose is both to demand and to endure.

We are, therefore, before six new songs that are much more than that: they are a turning point, a revulsive call to reward so many years of work, tables and effort. Now, Aldrin and Collins, unlike their namesakes, don't want to go to the moon. His is something more earthly. Have fun, keep creating and, above all, make noise. Noisy. And with that, the eternal astronauts are already happy.
