Giganto – Latigo Canta lp

The Madrid instrumental group Giganto publishes its second album, 'Látigo, canta'. Their first album, 'Friendly Fire' presented the least polished version of their intense rock and roll, channeling the trio's most aggressive personal and collective influences: KARP, Breach, NomeansNo, Queens of The Stone Age, Hammerhead, Melvins or Man… or Astroman? they made their way through the grooves of an implacable album, made with modest means and recorded almost entirely in the rehearsal room, faithfully capturing the volatile and abrasive proposal of the group without filters or decorations.

What has changed in these three years? 'Látigo, canta' refines the trio's proposal while maintaining the visceral character that defines them, although they have made a more than remarkable effort to give the Giganto sound dynamic, muscular and tense as never before, in which the work on drums by Jaime García (Adrift, CODO), always in tune with the percussive bass lines characteristic of the band. Meanwhile, Víctor Teixeira's guitars at times appropriate a twang that alludes to territories close to surfing, exoticism and other reverberant sounds, enhanced by the expert hand of Santi García at the controls, in charge of recording the album at Ca' studios. he Pau de Sant Pere Molanta. Of course, do not expect playful evocations of paradises of white sands or daiquiris at sunset... The forceful art of the album, once again designed by José Torre (also the band's bassist) already presages that lead and stone continue to be the materials that make up a Giganto always determined to revolt against that undeserved inclusion in movements as generic and far from their interests as the stoner, apparently the only destination for instrumental groups that do not shoot Mogwai or do versions of the Ventures.
