"Ever have one of those dreams where you are running around aimlessly or perhaps from some unseen menace and you decide to jump over a river or across rooftops and in mid leap you realize that you are dreaming? I have them all the time. I f*cking love them. Once I realize I am dreaming I usually decide to go all out and jump and run and do sh*t that is vaguely "The Matrixy". When I wake up I am exhilarated, sweaty, high as F*ck off of endorphins and ready to hump anyone or anything that is lying next to me. That is exactly the rush I get every single time I listen to the amazing album AF127 by Microfilm. It is stunning. It is epic and it is balls out awesome. I know nothing about Microfilm but I love them. They are apparently what the kids are calling "the post rock" and seem to be a bit French; but I could just be projecting my own bullsh*t on to them. In a lot of ways it sounds like if you took all the best elements of all the best Rush songs and mashed them together into one big bad joyous ball of life and the let RZA or MF DOOM drop all sorts of quirky vocal samples all over that f*cker. AF127 has this awesome ability to make everything seem slightly more interesting. It adds a color or hue to everything, well maybe add is the wrong word, it enhances. It takes what already exists and makes it more vibrant, more alive. I was walking around listening to AF127 the other night and I noticed that the street lights took on a particular golden hue that made the green on the trees pop just a bit more. Everything around me seemed like it was breathing. It was as if Microfilm's music somehow awakened their ancient spirits. It was a sensation usually saved for my best psychedelic experiences, yet I was stone sober and carrying a bag of diapers. Microfilm and AF127 makes the every day more alive and interesting.
