Nadja - Trembled CD

"I cannot fathom what it must be like to hear Nadja in the flesh. I've obviously never seen Nadja live, but to hear this recording from a show they played in Toronto, Canada back in 2006 is an experience in itself. Live music has a habit of either making or breaking a band. It's the easiest way to get your material heard. But bands like Nadja require your full attention if they are going to have the desired affect upon you. Even when you hear Nadja's material, in the privacy of your own home, it's difficult to stay involved sometimes. Not everyone can deal with songs that go well into double figures minute wise. Especially when there are no vocals/lyrics to keep you distracted. There is nothing to sing along to, but even so, Nadja's music, especially on this recording of a live show, has the ability to swallow you whole.

Nadja's music may not seem like the most complicated music, but you can just imagine how difficult this live show must have been. Two members, Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff are left to do it all themselves. One must be asking themselves beforehand, if you've had the chance to hear Nadja previously, whether they're up to the task. But this is what they get paid for, making music. Though, on disc, Nadja's music may not appear that complex, the music is heavily layered. You have a constant bassline, which is layered the down tuned guitars, which is then layered over the keyboards and synths. Maintaining the high standard of performance we Nadja fans are used to, on a live basis, is probably incredibly difficult. One can imagine the troubles these two musicians could run in to if they were to get something wrong. Nadja's relies heavily on precision and that's precision of everything. The timing of the riffs, the sound of the bass and the swirling ambient sounds we have all come to love. As they say, timing is everything. One thing you can take away from this live performance is that Nadja knows how to put on a life changing performance." - Perplexed_Sjel / Metal Archives
