Nueva Vulcano – Los Peces De Colores CD

It's hard to find a group with such an intimate bond with its audience and, especially, with its city. To many, if they asked us which is the most autochthonous group, most deeply rooted in Barcelona, we would say Nueva Vulcano. A true cult phenomenon that has become the group of many. Not only the favorite group of many, but the group that represents many. Sometimes, certain more or less cryptic poetry, accompanied by visceral and uncompromising music, penetrates so deeply among its followers that admiration for a band becomes a cult; in the ritual of going to absolutely all their concerts, in the ritual of collecting each single or each album that is released from them. All of this is what Nueva Vulcano is today: a special group.

Now they present us with their third studio album, Los Peces de Colores (BCore, 09), after their debut Principal Primera (BCore, 04) and their impressive Entropic Game (BCore, 05), which has kept them on stage for 4 years, except for small record episodes such as the shared EP with the North Americans The Life And Times, which took them on a tour of the US, and the single Los Días Indicados (BCore, 07), plus references for the list of singles they have been editing parallel to their albums. Their faithful ally, Santi Garcia, who for this album has made them raise their tone of voice and make Artur Estrada sing louder and clearer than ever, so that his incredible lyrics come out as they should; lyrical wonders such as Níquel, Canela, one of the most precious lyrics ever written by Artur, of moving simplicity and beauty. Or evocative like Sweet and sour and Africa, funny like Jen Trok, speech therapist, dark like La malza, or almost sociologically close in La ley de costas. Lyrics of someone who simply doesn't know how to imitate others and has to invent his own language. As always, that dirty and sometimes shy guitar, those monumental bass arrangements coming from the genius composer of Wences Aparicio and that drummer possessed by the devil by Albert Guàrdia, who on this album has recorded the tracks of his instrument at the Garate Studios in Andoain, make up a group with an unmistakable sound that makes all of Nueva Vulcano's poetry, whether lyrical, aesthetic, musical or conceptual, shine brighter than ever.
