Bad weather caught its breath/ The end of the cycle came, Ramón Rodríguez sings in Al margin, one of the ten songs included in Oh, rompehielos and which, as he himself admits, marks the end of an era. He refers to the story told not only in his first album as The New Raemon, About Garfunkel (2008), but also in LAntarctica, Madee's last full length, published in 2007. And he also talks about the beginning of something new, of knowing how to let go of ballast to start over from scratch, like an icebreaker that makes its way, bursting in its path everything that prevents it from reaching its destination. It is not surprising that, beyond the clear metaphorical opposition between the two titles that we have just mentioned, Ramón is inspired by the mythology of the adventure novel when it comes to talking about something romantic or a relationship... a classic adventure of someone lost in the Arctic, which finally ends its journey free of charge on a beach, one warm San Juan night and which includes references to the Yeti, the queen of the Amazons or a Chimera that could well be the gold that Charles Chaplin was chasing.

The fifth full-length by The New Raemon comes after two release albums such as the self-exploratory Free Association (2011) and, especially, Tinieblas, por fin (2012), a quite different work in his career, with which he not only admits having was quite comfortable vomiting his indignation with the social and political situation of the moment, but also for having been published on the Marxophone label. Oh, icebreaker, as part of the commented end of the cycle, it also means his return to BCore, his usual record company, and with which Ramón has released ten albums if we count his various projects. And in it, as in that About Garfunkel that seems to continue to be the most distinctive among his followers, he once again peers inside, at the world of interpersonal relationships, although with a harsher and more disillusioned gaze. There are positive portraits, it is true: those warned in Reina del amazonas, Oh, rompehielos or Moneypenny, but in general the violent images and the bitter reality of Desencuentros or Los hechos prevail, a subject that is not at all accommodating to the outside gaze and gossip.
